World Suicide Prevention Day Community Forum
World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) community day forum is held every year for the community, service providers and other agencies with a large range of key speakers. This free forum is themed to coincide with international WSPD held around the world (10 Sept). Our thanks to everyone who contributes to this informative and important event. Further info for 2019 is under Upcoming Events
Candlelight Vigil/Out of Shadows Walk
For the past five years, Care for Life in conjunction with Lifeline have hosted an Out of Shadows Walk in Broadbeach in September in memory of loved ones lost to suicide and to also bring about awareness and support the bereaved. In 2018, a Candlelight Vigil was held in Southport
Suicide Awareness/Grief Workshops
Care for Life hold workshops during the year with the most recent being presented by Doris Zagdanski (author and educator on the art of Empathy). This was a Loss and Grief Seminar which was well attended and more workshops are planned in 2019 - refer to Upcoming Events.
Education & training in suicide prevention is also a major role of Care for Life.
Training courses are available to individuals and organisations within the community each year at a minimal cost to attendee's. Courses are designed to assist those working with 'at risk' individuals e.g; youth ,males, older people. Suicide Prevention Training Programs are tailored to meet the needs of individual groups. The workshops are suitable for persons over 18 years of age and participants can be volunteers working with community (youth or aged groups), concerned families/parents/friends, community and youth workers, health, welfare & educational professionals, clergy and concerned individuals.
The response received when courses are offered indicates strongly that workshops must be maintained on an annual basis. Emphasis is placed on those working in a voluntary capacity who do not have access to professional development funding.
